Why Exfoliation Is So Important to Your Skin Care Routine
You may think exfoliation will simply slough away that dulling layer of dead skin to help you achieve a more radiant complexion. However, this process is also critical when it comes to improving the performance of your moisturizer or serum for better and deeper penetration.
When you skip exfoliating, your skin care creams, lotion, and serums have a harder time to work as they try to sink through the clogging skin barrier. Once you exfoliate, your skin care products prove to be more effective and will work harder for you.
Look for less abrasive ingredients in exfoliators like silica or tiny beads that will be gentle on the skin for the best results. If you happen to use a product with coarser granules, you risk tearing up sections of your face when rubbing intensely.
Another way to get the most out of exfoliation is to use warm water with your scrub and remember to use a circular motion to massage the product into your skin. Try to work from your nose to your forehead, cheeks, and then chin and let this scrub absorb for a few minutes before rinsing.
Also, do not try to get overzealous with exfoliation. Strive for using an exfoliator twice a week unless you have sensitive skin and then do it once weekly. Exfoliation too often can potentially damage skin instead of beautifying.
Earlier I shared a wonderful recipe to make a homemade facial scrub in your kitchen that is amazing when you see what it does for you on a regular basis.
Regardless of the form of the exfoliating product that you use, I simply want to stress that it is definitely in your best interest to schedule this extra step in your skin care routine. By doing so, your complexion will only improve!
