How to Keep Your House Cleaner Longer

Here is the shoe guard.

It is unrealistic to think that you can keep all dirt from finding its way into your house.  Yet, there are some steps that you can take to minimize it.

The first place to think about is the door area.  Instead of tracking dirt into the house, a heavy-duty floor mat or rug can help lessen chances of carrying it further into your home.  What we like to do at our house is to take our shoes off at the door and slip them into our slippers that we parked nearby in the entryway.  Try positioning a shoe rack near each entry and instructing the family into changing from their “street” shoes into “house” shoes does keep the house cleaner.

If you want to dust not as often, you need to remember to change your furnace filter monthly and regularly clean your air vents. Air-conditioning filters should be changed every three months.  Also, what helps are having the air ducts professionally cleaned once a year.

Bathrooms are prone to mold.  What I like to do is to make a DIY home cleaning spray of water and white vinegar and store in a plastic spray bottle to wipe things down.  This is better on the lungs than inhaling chemicals like bleach and also good for the environment.  Fill about one fourth of the clean spray bottle with the white vinegar before adding the rest with water.  I boil the water first, let it cool before using it in this recipe.  You could use it straight out of the tap, but this keeps the mixture a bit more sanitary.
