How to Give Your Fine, Thinner Hair Extra Volume When Drying

redhead-shaking-her-head.jpeg
This beauty found a better way to boost hair volume.

Though I have thick hair now, this was not always the case.  Believe it or not, I used to have thin hair that was straight instead of the same natural curl that I have today.  I don’t have any idea how my hair became thick and the natural curl decided to spring up, but it changed soon after I got a very short haircut as crazy as that may sound.  Therefore, I thought you would appreciate a hair styling trick that I used to do to boost my former thin hair’s volume.

I would use a round brush for this only.  The important thing to remember is to lift up the roots with the brush once you begin blow-drying through each section of the head.  This lifting will help the hair from falling flat and create more movement to the style.

In an earlier post, I shared another hair volumizing trick that you also might want to try.  If you do, I promise that your hair will appear to gain more volume!

Some Valuable Hair Care Tips to Remember When You Plan to Spend Time in the Sun

back of woman's head as she feels her hair at beach.jpeg
If this beauty took more precautions, she wouldn't need to keep testing the condition of her hair.

Most of us always remember to protect our skin with sunscreen when planning to spend a lot of time in the summer sun.  However, we can often forget all the damage our hair can suffer if we don’t care for it properly. If you want to keep it healthy, there are some preventive measures that you should take.

A hat is great, especially one with a wide brim.  You’ll save your hair from potential brittleness and help your face from aging at the same time with an extra layer of sun protection.

Why You Might Want to Change the Way You Part Your Hair Occasionally!

thinking pretty brunette.jpeg
This beauty listened intently to safeguard her lovely hair.

We all tend to have a favorite way to part our hair.  Maybe you feel that when your hair divides in a certain place to part that it best compliments you.  While this may be true, there is something else that may cause you to suddenly want to try a new part.

According to one hair study, years of parting your hair in the same place can take a toll.  Continual abuse of running your comb through one section of the scalp can create enough stress to actually widen the area.

I don’t know about you, but I would like to avoid extra scalp showing on my head.  Therefore, I plan on also changing my part every now and then!

Here’s How to Tame Overly, Frizzy Hair That Has You Down!

curly-haired thinking beauty.jpeg
This beauty is contemplating how much time these hair tips would have saved her.

Those of us that are born with natural curls in our hair know it comes with special challenges like frizziness for one.  Here is the help that can get that problem tamed instead of letting it continue to frustrate you. Hopefully, the hair care tips that I depend on will simplify life for you as well.

The more layers that I get cut into my hair, the more curls pop out on my head.  For times when I have moderate frizz, I always make it a habit to leave a dime-size portion of my instant hair conditioner in after shampooing instead of rinsing it out as you might expect. Use just a small amount to work the knots in your hair free.   Depending on the length  and texture of your hair, you might need more or less. Believe it or not, my hair is shinier and smoother after styling.

For when you have overly frizzy hair, my stylist taught me this trick to use once a week that works like a charm.  You will need a hairnet and light leave-in conditioner.  The instant conditioner also works if you don’t have any on hand. What you do is to fill that hairnet with plenty of the conditioner.  Use about four times more of the product to totally saturate the hair with ample lubrication.  To that mix, you can even add a little bit of your styling creme for shaping, if you want to work with texture.

After you prepare that hairnet, you want to apply it to your freshly shampooed and still damp hair and wear it for at least 15 minutes.  When that time is up, you don’t rush to the sink to rinse it out.  You’ll want to leave the conditioner in before drying and styling your hair.

You’ll be shocked at how smooth, soft, shiny, and extra manageable that your hair will be. Try these frizzy hair care tips of mine because I know what it feels like when your hair wants to work against you. Trust me, but you will be so glad that you did!

An Easy Hair Care Trick That Will Save You Blowout Time!

two long-haired smiling women.jpeg
These beauties are excited that they found a better way to cut down drying time.

Since my hair is quite thick, it takes extra time to dry it.  However, there is a way to speed up how long you need to blow dry it that I always used to rely on before I had so many layers cut into my hair that I thought you might want to try.  This hair tip works the best for when your hair is longer and all one length, but it is a wonderful way to finish up drying faster.

All you need to do is apply some leave-in hair conditioner after you shampoo and tightly secure your hair into a ponytail.  Make sure the hair is forced back enough to hug your head.  This tightness is what will gives you the smoothness at the top when you later release it when still damp from air-drying in the ponytail to finish last-minute blow drying.

I hope you try this hair care tip because it does come in handy when you’re rushed for time.

How to Fix Hair Serum Overload When You Are in a Rush and Need Beautiful Hair

frustrated woman with packing tape attached to her greasy hair.jpeg
This beauty will never experience this problem again now that she knows the fix.

Perhaps, you started a new brand of hair serum.  You apply some just as you would normally like your last brand, but somehow it doesn’t add the same amount of gloss.  Frustrated now, you decide to apply just a little more, hoping it would finally provide that glistening shine that you were promised. The only problem is instead of making your hair look better, but you got the opposite.  Your hair now looks greasy.  So what are your options?

You might be tempted to give yourself a fresh wet or dry shampoo and start all over, but you are short on time.  Still, there is a quick way to get that rid of that slickness that you may not have thought of–-hair spray!
Hair spray can get that greasy gunk out of your strands because of its ability to absorb oil.  However, the only variety that is capable of the job is a non-aerosol pump spray since the product won’t instantly evaporate like the fine mist that aerosols deliver.

The next time you find yourself in this predicament, the easiest thing to do is to divide your hair in sections and then spray one area at a time.  Before you move on, take out your hair dryer and blast it for about a minute or so.  This does help clean up the hair very nicely.

I hope that you don’t need to use this hair tip, but it is good to know just in case this does happen.  To prevent this hair tragedy in the first place, you might want to read my earlier post on how best to apply hair serums.

Some Simple Ways to Help Your Hair Thrive!

Red-haired girl with long, shiny hair.jpeg
For hair like this young beauty, read these tips.
Despite a great cut and expensive products, there always comes a time when you feel your hair betrayed you.  If you want to increase your odds of having better hair days, then there are some simple tricks that you can do that really help to beautify it.

The first rule that should keep in mind involves shampooing. Whatever you do, you must avoid washing the hair in water that is overly hot since hair can become dry just as much as the skin. Another reason is it will make the hair absorb too much of your hair styling products that you later follow with, only leaving the strands greasy and weighed down. Instead, make it a habit to use just warm water.

Just as important is how much and how you shampoo.  Using too much is not necessary and can only dull your hair or cause tangling from insufficient rinsing or over vigorous scrubbing.  Nothing is worse when you have a habit of rubbing the hair too hard than when concentrating on the ends, which are already vulnerable. Doing this will make them brittle.  Gently massage the shampoo on the scalp is enough to do the job without abusing the hair.

How to Make Your Own DIY Smoothing Creme for Hair!

smiling dark-haired woman with bangs and straighter hair.jpeg
This beauty is all smiles now that she knows this simple trick.

In case you ever went to grab your smoothing creme and discovered you forgot to restock, I have the perfect hair save for you.  You can use this on slightly damp hair or on dry hair when you need some extra taming for frizz or to freshen up your style with soft hold instead of relying on finishing or hair spray.

What I do is mix small equal amounts of an instant hair conditioner with styling gel in the palm of my hand. After I mix it up a bit, I apply it to my slightly damp hair and finish styling using my hair dryer and round brushes, tugging the hair down as I go.

The hair will be straighter and possess great gloss with gentle hold just like your smoothing creme.  The great thing about this improvised smoothing creme is that it will do what you need while moisturizing the hair without stiffness of gel.

Are You Having Problems of Your Hair Looking Greasy After Applying Shine Serums?

You may not think it matters how you apply shine serum to your hair, but it can mean the difference between a glossy mane and a greasy one.  So if you kept blaming products for causing this problem, then chances are it’s more technique and the amount of serum that is unevenly distributed and lands mostly in one spot over other places that is the real culprit.

Instead of pouring some shine serum into the palm of your hand and rubbing the product across the top of your head, you got to change your ways because this is how a greasy head happens.  This is why your hair will look dirty and greasy by the second day.

To prevent this problem and really get the maximum benefit from shine serums, try pouring some shine serum in the palm of your hand like before, only be sure to rub your palms together first. Doing so, makes sure the serum is spread out more evenly.  Afterwards, apply it from the midshaft to the ends in those places that you need it most for the best results.

You might find it more helpful to work with two-inch sections on each side of your head.  Beginning at the bottom of a section, try swiping a section at a time with some of that serum on top as well as under that gathered portion of hair, holding each section lightly as you go between your palms.

Be gentle with how you maintain that hold.  If you grip that section too hard, you will run out of that already prepared serum that you will need to do the rest of your hair.  You also might end up with overloading that section of your hair with too much serum.

Try this little hair trick and you'll never have that same problem again!

Are You Longing for Better Hair? Then Be More Savvy When It Comes to Shampoo Ingredients as Well as Your Technique!

There are many reasons you may have dull, lifeless hair from diet, health, weather to the shampoos you use.  Some of those factors are harder to control, but shampoo and how you wash your hair can make all the difference.

The kindest thing you can do for your hair is to read shampoo labels and check the ingredients.  Products that have sodium laureth sulfate or sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES) in the list are harsher ingredients since they can strip the hair of its oils unlike a gentler sulfate-free formula. You may be shocked but sodium laureth sulfate or sodum lauryl ether sulfate (SLES) that you may have been washing your hair with are typical ingredients in dish detergents as well!

Believe it or not, how you wash your hair can also affect how shiny and healthy it may appear.  Instead of vigorously scrubbing the hair from roots to the ends, you should concentrate lathering only the roots, the area where the natural oils accumulate.

The hair from the midshaft to the ends tends to be drier.  Therefore, overworking that section of hair only adds brittleness.  Focusing more attention shampooing the roots won’t leave those midshaft to end hairs unwashed since shampoo does reach them, only more indirectly once you rinse.  According to one hair stylist, this is more that sufficient to clean the hair.

Another hair stylist I interviewed told me women over shampoo.  He recommends washing the hair two to three times a week and no more.  Every day shampooing can damage and turn the hair dry and coarse.  If you feel your hair is dirty, he suggested a dry shampoo in between shampoos. You may also want to try sprinkling on some baby powder or cornstarch, which also can substitute as a wonderful dry shampoo.

Has Frizzy Hair Got You Down?

Are you doing everything possible to prevent your hair from frizzing?  Yet, despite our best efforts we can often end up with it.  So what are we doing wrong?

Take a look at the type of blow-dryer you have.  Chances are frizz will be less of a problem if you change to an ionic model.  The reason an ionic dryer is better is due to the far-infrared heat technology that helps create the smoothest hair.

Another suggestion you might want to explore is to pick up an anti-frizz cream.  Make sure you look for ingredients like silicone and vitamin E.  Those two ingredients are known to work the best to soften and hydrate blow-dried hair.

For further suggestions on how to conquer this problem, I hope you will read my other post on battling frizzy hair.

Check these simple tips out because you have nothing but frustration to loose and only beautiful hair to gain!
