Conditioner Strategies for Your Hair Type That Can Make a Beautiful Difference

woman-with-long-conditioned-hair.jpeg
Understanding what is going on with your hair is the first step to finding an ideal conditioning strategy.

Since we all have different hair types, we don’t condition our hair in exactly the same way.  Otherwise, the beautiful results we expect may not turn out as we had hoped for.  The reason this disappointment is because one conditioner is not always meant to address all specific hair textures or issues.  This is why you need to ask yourself a few questions before shopping for conditioners.

The Current Condition of Your Hair Matters

First, what is the current state of your hair right now?  Is it dry, damaged or color-treated?  If so, then using a daily hydrating conditioner after shampooing is important to keep it in good shape.  It is also helpful to use a thermal protective spray before using hot styling tools and your hair dryer so not to minimize your efforts.  To repair brittleness and add healthy luster, you also need to use a deep conditioner once a week.

Hair Textures Also Have Different Needs

Perhaps, you have fine, limp hair.  What you don’t want to do is to overload on a conditioner that could weigh your hair down and make it look greasy and flatter because your hair is probably on the oily side.  However, you still might want a lightweight conditioner to help volumize and give it softness and shine.  The best thing to do is avoid thick, creamy formulas and condition only about twice a week.  If you have a problem with your hair knotting, a leave-in detangling spray offers additional control to tame it.

Thick, coarse hair thrives the best when it gets treated to a masque or deep conditioner with softening ingredients like shea butter or ceramides twice a month.  This type of ingredient offers the most powerful help to remedy its extra wiry damage and coax this texture back to beauty.

Hopefully, this post will help simplify your hair conditioner strategies for the best possible outcome!

How to Give Your Hair the Best Finish When Styling

woman-with-hands-through-her-hair.jpeg
This beauty doesn't take her hair for granted.

We all know that hair can have a mind of its own.  Over the years, I have found some tricks for improving how I finish styling my hair.  Hopefully, these tips will help you as well to guarantee better hair days.

The first involves hair spray. I don’t know about you, but I depend on a little hair spray to keep my style in place.  Regardless of the formula, I found a way to prevent my hair from becoming too stiff.  Instead of just spraying all over my head at once, I found that lifting up a section at a time and aiming the spray at the root underneath is a better method.   My hair stays in place but doesn’t have that hardness that spraying on top gives.

Something else to give damaged hair a lovelier finish is turning to a finishing silicone hair spray.   A silicone spray on dry, damaged hair can give the hair more beauty and make it healthier because it temporarily fills in the porosity.

However, you don’t want to make a regular habit of using a silicone hair spray daily all the time because it can backfire.  After all, it’s sort of a plastic sealant for shine.  At the same time, it weighs hair down and causes a build up of dirt and pollutants that can eventually weaken and dry hair out.  Use it for those occasions when you need your damaged hair to look great until you can give it an intensive repair treatment.

The next finishing tip is for those with a natural curl or waves to their hair. I have thick hair that has natural curl.  The cut I get determines how much curl is released.  When my hair is not as layered, it has more waves than curl.  On the other hand, a layered style gives me a head of curls.  What I like to do is after styling is to pat on a little bit of finishing cream or pomade over my hair.  This keeps the frizz down and holds it in place that I even skip hair spray at times.

Also, here’s another curly hair trick to keep the frizz down.   Try not touching your hair so much when drying does help.  The fingers seem to break up the curl, which causes the problem.  If you try this, then you’ll understand how the frizz multiples from all that touching because the fingers make lots of finer curls.

Take care and I trust what I shared will keep you and your hair looking as sensational as ever!

Are You Confused With All the Various Types of Hairsprays Which Ones Are Best for You?

Kenra hairsprays.jpeg
Understanding each hairspray variety enables you to be happier with your purchase.

Did you ever notice that every time you go shopping for hair and skin care products that besides new brands or offshoots of a particular brand that the products like hairsprays just as quickly can have different functions?  Though you may know the strength of desired hold or how you want that spray dispensed such as aerosol or non-aerosol, you still might be wondering how to determine the right variety of spray for your needs.

Finishing sprays usually give the finest mist and firm hold for the entire head.  Many are in aerosol form and now also will help your hair shine.  This type of spray isn’t meant to keep spraying misbehaving pieces of hair. Otherwise, the hair will stiffen into a hard mass.  Consider this spray only more for keeping the style intact.  Those with fine hair want to avoid finishing sprays since these are better suited for normal or thick hair texture.

On the other hand, working hairsprays can give you more freedom for styling your hair and can benefit all hair textures.  These are ideal for building in texture with hold, especially if you have layers or waves in your hair that you play with.  The great thing about this type of spray is you can brush and comb after initially using it without worrying that your style will suffer.  If you find your hair starts to droop, working sprays allow you to just spray again to touch up without fear of excessive stickiness or becoming a helmet head.

Then again, you may want your hair to have movement instead of merely locking it somewhat in place.  If so, then flexible hairsprays have less hold and are very light when they touch the hair to provide the most natural hold.  This type is especially good for those with fine hair because it won’t bog the hair down to make it look flat.

Volumizing hairsprays can help give fine or thin hair a bit of lift, the closer you spray toward the roots. However, normal to thick hair won’t benefit in the same way.

Shine hairsprays differ from ones labeled shine sprays.  Shine hairsprays are also finishing hairsprays but will be the ones to guarantee a maximum shine.  The hold on these can range from medium to a firm hold. Anyone with thick or curly hair would find these helpful for styling, but not if you have fine hair.  Instead, shine hairsprays will only make your hair look oily and dirty.

Hopefully, the information I provided will help clarify these hairsprays for you.

Knowing the Proper Amount of Hair Styling Products to Use Could Give Better Hair Days!

long-haired brunette beauty.jpeg
As one that takes her hair seriously, this beauty knows how important these styling guidelines are.

Beautiful, manageable hair is what we always are striving for when we play with our hair. Sometimes though, the outcome of our finished style can be disappointing like when your hair refuses to do what you need and you end up overloading the product.  Instead of helping with texture, you ruin the look.  However, you can save yourself some grief according to a few hair stylists I talked to using these recommended amounts.

If a serum is a hair staple to you, then stick with a small, dime-size amount.

Cream styling products are ones that you can use a bit more of, figure the size of a quarter. This amount will give you more than enough control regardless of short, medium or even long hair.

You might prefer wax products.  Being the case, a nickle size amount is all that you should be applying.

Gels are styling products that you can apply more liberally.  Think of the size of a silver dollar when you measure some out.

Mousse products are ones that you can have the most freedom with when dispensing.  Pump out enough to practically fill the palm of your hand.

Regardless of the form of styling product, here is a way that you can double check if you got the amount right in case you forget.  What you do is measure out the product and rub it in the palm of your hand to warm it first.  If it starts dripping and making a mess, then stop and wipe some off before taking your hands to your head since you used too much.  Keep this in mind and you will stay beautiful!

Is Your Deep Conditioner Not Doing Your Hair Justice?

smiling long-haired beauty in jacket.jpeg
This beauty knows what it takes to keep her hair in glorious condition.

If your deep conditioner doesn’t seem to be doing enough to repair the extent of hair damage as you had hoped, you might want to just try another brand or formula. Before you go shopping for a new one, you’ll be better off knowing what type of ingredients that can help your suffering hair the most.

The best deep conditioners have plenty of fatty acids.  These ingredients are emulsifiers, the oily substances needed to fortify and saturate the cuticle of damaged hair with that needed moisture to rehydrate and repair. Some common ones are stearyl acid, cetearyl acid, capric acid, linoleic acid, pantothenic acid (panthenol), and myristic acid among others to oils like coconut and jojoba.

You also want to make sure to look for smoothing ingredients such as dimethicone and cyclopentasiloxne (silicone compounds).  These help in keeping the hair’s cuticle flat to maximize shine and manageability.

Hopefully, this hair tip will help you find more hair happiness in the future!

Review: Renovo Beauty Natural Hair Care Kickoff Kit + Coupon Code and GIVEAWAY!

Renovo Beauty Natural Hair Care Kickoff Kit.jpeg
Renovo Beauty Natural Hair Care Kickoff Kit

With the holiday season, you need your hair to look great.  Sometimes though, it doesn’t always do that. However, if you treat your hair with the ideal diet of all-natural ingredients instead of feed it chemicals, you may be surprised at what you will see.

I was in the dark about Renovo Beauty until this Pittsburgh-based company of all-natural hair and skin care products reached out.  Now that I tried a few of their shampoos and conditioners, I am so glad that my eyes are now open to what their fine sulfate free hair care line can do for beautiful hair.

What the company sent was their Natural Hair Care Kickoff Kit ($29.95) that included 4 oz. bottles of their Natural Basil Honey Lemongrass Cleansing Detox Shampoo Y1, Natural Cinnamon Oatmeal Molasses Moisturizing Shampoo X1, Natural Eucalyptus Spearmint Leave-In Conditioner X1, and Natural Quinoa Blood Orange Repairing Protein Conditioner Z1.

Though it’s not stated on the label, these natural hair care products are safe for color-treated hair.  This includes their Y1 Cleansing Detox Shampoo, which is geared for those with fine or oily hair.  Normally, deep cleansing formulas can strip the color, but my recently colored hair was fine.

The biggest difference of their fragrant shampoos is that they don’t really foam up as you might be used to. These have a feel of lathering with more of a conditioning product.  Regardless, the results are what matters like counting on shiny, well-behaved hair due to all the nourishing vitamins and natural oils within.

I did happen to favor the XI Moisturizing Shampoo and XI Conditioner with my dry hair, which gave the strands a healthier softness to them. This formula did add extra gloss from its macadamia nut extracts as well as bounce while protecting against damaging heat from my dryer and styling tools.

If you’re curious about what Renova Beauty can do for your own hair, then now through December 31 is a good time to try their products out since you will receive 5% off your order using coupon code F1GTRTCY8T58 at checkout.

While you're ordering, check out their giveaway below to win this set.  Hurry both that code and giveaway end soon!

Reclaim Your Hair--Honor Haircare Dry Solution Moisturizing Mask (Review)

Honor Haircare Dry Solution Moisturizing Mask.jpeg
Honor Haircare Dry Solution Moisturizing Mask

What we do to beautify our hair like coloring, perming, straightening to using hot styling tools every day to enjoying summer activities can dry and damage the condition if you’re not careful.  However, I discovered a way to help your hair bounce back from ugliness–and it’s called the Dry Solution Moisturizing Mask from Honor Haircare.

This is a very moisture-intense deep conditioner that is infused with nourishing oils like safflower oil, shea butter, argan oil, olive oil, avocado, coconut oil, wheatgerm and rosemary oils.  The formula also has pathenol, and wheat, collagen, and silk proteins to strengthen and assist in hair rejuvenation.

My own dry, color-treated hair happened to be suffering and in need of deep conditioning when it arrived.  It was dull, somewhat hard, lacked its usual shine and bordering on brassy since it was also nearly time to recolor.

Upon opening this jar, you will love how the delicious vanilla cookie type smell that radiates from inside. However, you will love the results even more once you give your hair a treatment.

The company recommends three to five minutes but I left this stuff on my towel-dried, freshly washed hair about an hour one morning.  Since no one was here to see me in this state, I decided to get the most I could out of this mask and wrapped some plastic wrap over my head before fashioning a turban out a towel to reap all its benefits.

When I finished styling later in the day, my hair was softer, more lustrous and easier to manage.  Hating the condition of your own hair and wanting to restore the feel and look of it, I suggest visiting Honor Haircare and checking out the Dry Solution Moisturizing Mask ($49.95).

For the most part, I use permanent hair coloring, which can be a pain when you start to get brassy and it’s too early to do another coloring.  However, I got to try Roux Fanci-Full Color Styling Mousse in #13 Chocolate Kiss today and now will be keeping a bottle handy at all times because this temporary coloring product can be a lifesaver!

Roux Fanci-Full Color Styling Mousse line.jpeg
There are 11 great shades available in the line of Roux Fanci-Full Color Styling Mousse.

Imagine, the phone rings with unexpected news like an important job interview, an event that came out of nowhere, funeral, etc. that leaves you without time to color your hair or run out to the salon.  Let me tell you that simply shaking up that bottle of Roux Fanci-Full Color Styling Mousse and rubbing some puffs of that color solves that problem in a snap to get you gorgeous again.

Roux Fanci-Full Color Styling Mousse 13 Chocolate Kiss.jpeg
Here is #13 Chocolate Kiss in Roux Fanci-Full Color Styling Mousse.
Besides all the time I saved, I also avoided all that fuss of the need to wear rubber gloves or mixing the formula before applying.  All that was required of me was shake and shoot before dividing between my hands and applying to my damp hair. Trust me, but my hands were not stained in the least.

My hair is medium brown with red tones through it.  The #13 Chocolate Kiss shade did a nice job to deepen the brown tones, more on the color of a Hershey’s chocolate Kiss, and cover a few stray grays.  Furthermore, it didn’t take as many puffs of this mousse to color my whole head as I had thought because I still had a lot left in the can.

If you’ve been contemplating a change or want to tweak your current look, then temporary hair coloring products from Roux Fanci-Full Color Styling Mousse and Rinse are the ideal solution to begin that beauty transformation, especially when you can save and possibly win a $3200 designer handbag or be one of 10 lucky people to win a year of Roux Anti-Aging Hair Care!

Keune Design Color Care and Styling Eight Hair Products Review + ($164) Giveaway! (USA & CA)–Ends August 15, 2015

Keune Design Color Care five products.jpeg
Keune Design Color Care Shampoo, Treatment, Conditioner, Brilliant Gloss Spray, Hair Beauty Split Ends Serum

Those who are craving a fresh hair look can gain a beautiful advantage with salon quality products like the ones from Keune that I keep discovering.  Once I tell you about my latest new hair care finds from the brand, you will also be inspired to try them–that is, if you haven’t done so by now.

Since I just had my hair colored, I wanted to try products to keep the shade vibrant, healthy, and lasting as long as possible.  Therefore, I thought the Design Color Care Shampoo, Conditioner, Hair Treatment, Design Hair Beauty Split Ends Serum, Brilliant Glossing Spray along with the Jelly Wax, Care Line Mineral Mousse, and the Shaping Hair Spray would be perfect to experiment with this time to keep my tresses styled with the gorgeous hold I have come to appreciate from their products.

Keune three styling products.jpeg
Keune Jelly Wax, Mineral Mousse, Shaping Hair Spray

The Design Color Care Shampoo and Conditioner were luxurious formulas with sunflower seed extract and solamer UV protection for safeguarding the color along with a color stabilizer, LP300.  It also had sea silk proteins for softness and shine.

What I treated my hair to a few days later was with their Design Color Care Treatment. This is a lightweight moisturizing deep conditioner with an enticing fragrance that strengthens and protects with vegetable and wheat proteins while it works.  Keune suggests three minutes with this conditioner on is enough, but I always keep mine on longer, more like thirty minutes before rinsing to give the product extra time to do its thing.

For my side swept bangs, I was intrigued by the description of their Jelly Wax.  The texture was in between a gel and wax, more like pomade so I thought this might keep some of the layers back with soft feathering. This gives a medium hold with lots of a shine geared for medium to short hair.  I used a little while my hair was still damp and it did a nice job without making my hair feel dirty or sticky.  The hair was touchable, but you could later restyle and it still kept the hold.

In fact, the next time that I tried the Jelly Wax, I tested it on dry hair.  I got to tell you that getting just a little and rubbing it in your hand first and applying to the areas on dry hair works even better.  I also tried in the sides of my hair when I pulled my hair back and it worked like a charm to keep my tresses in place.  Another plus about this product is that it doesn’t linger when you wash it out.

The Care Line Mineral Mousse was what I chose for the rest of my layers.  I liked how this stuff built up the curl without making my hair feel crunchy from the product.  Instead, this mousse left it soft with its provitamin B5 and polymers and yet it had a strong hold.

To keep my style in place, I lightly misted my hair with the Design Shaping Hair Spray, Super formula.  This is the stuff you want if you want your style to stay put.  You will get an extra firm hold, but you can take a brush or comb to it and restyle without worrying about your hairdo falling apart.

Though my hair had shine, I wanted to see if it had any more with their Design Brilliant Gloss Spray after I finished my hair.  This did pump up the wattage to a surprising new level.

A few weeks later, I knew my hair could use additional help after spending some time in sun that left it feeling brittle.   After I washed my hair, I waited until my hair was still damp before breaking one capsule from the box of Keune Design Hair Beauty Split Ends Serum to apply.  This product not only repairs, but is a concentrated shine booster that also protects from heat.  Once I finished blow-drying, I was so happy with how soft and shiny my hair felt again.

If you want eye-catching hair, I am confident that you can also have it.  Whatever you’re looking for your hair to do or solve, I do recommend Keune because from what I have experienced, I do know they can help!  Do check their products out.

The Ultimate Hair Rescue With Six Keune Hair Care Line Products Review + ($195) Giveaway! (USA, Canada)–Ends June 14, 2015

Keune six Care line products for ultimate hair rescue.jpeg
Here is what you need for the ultimate hair rescue with these six Keune Care Line products.

Beautiful hair does not just happen. It needs to be nurtured and fed just as you do your body with hair products up to the challenge of handling its constantly changing needs.  For those times when your mane is particularly unmanageable and damaged, I was sent some great products from Keune Care Line of products that were definitely up to the task of a hair rescue.

What I tried first was the Care Line’s Ultimate Control Shampoo.  This was a really gentle formula for anyone, but especially those with curls and waves for how it managed frizzy hair with its essential minerals, liquid keratin, silsoft, and provitamin B-5 for strengthening and control.

The Care Line Ultimate Control Conditioner is what I followed with once I dried my hair somewhat with a towel.  It has essential minerals, polymers, silsoft, and silk proteins.   I left this product in for less than five minutes before rinsing out of my hair.

Before I took out my hair dryer, I sprayed some of the Care Line Define Style Thermal Protector into my hair first.  With its shine enhancing and protective moisturizing ingredients like wheat protein and provitamin B-5, etc. this helped save my hair any further damage.  When I finished, the products did tame my unruly curls and waves and added softness with enough control to better style it.

I noticed an improvement in the behavior and feel of my hair, but I knew that my hair still wasn't as healthy as it should be. Therefore, I pulled out the big guns and gave my hair the Keune Ultimate Control Care Line Treatment for some heavy duty deep conditioning after my next shampoo.

The directions state keeping it on for about five minutes and wrap with a hot towel before rinsing it out.  I, however, wanted all its restorative power so I kept this intensive conditioner on an hour while doing my chores.  I wrapped some plastic wrap around my head before my towel, which helped lock in that activating warmth while preventing any leaking mess.

The Care Line Treatment is one excellent, powered conditioner with the way it strengthened and reversed the brittleness with its wheat micro proteins, kervis, silsoft, and silk proteins in its ingredients.  When I was through drying and styling, I loved the look and feel of my hair again.

About a week later, I decided it was time to see how the Care Line Define Style Ultimate Shine Repair would work with its vitamin E and squalane.  You can use it on damp hair following your shampoo or on dry head to give it more brilliance.  The first time I experimented, I tried some on my dry hair and it turned up the wattage all right.

On another occasion, I tried the Care Line Ultimate Control Silkening Polish.  This is geared specially for frizzy hair with silk proteins and essential minerals for shine, protection, and handling difficult hair.  I used it on my still damp hair.  After drying, my hair instantly had more gloss and added manageability, which I appreciated and saved me from bringing out my styling iron to refresh my style.

I really noticed a big difference in the condition and behavior of my unruly hair with these Keune Care Line products.  If you are not satisfied with your own hair, I highly recommend visiting the Keune website and picking up some of their professional hair products like this assortment for repairing and controlling frizzy hair because they won’t disappoint you!

Thanks to Keune Hair Care, one lucky Nuts 4 Stuff reader in the United States or Canada wins the above six full-size Keune Care Line products ($195 value)!

ENJOY Hair Care Shaping Lotion, Nourishing and Moisturizing Oil and Hair Spray Review + ($66) Giveaway!–Ends May 13, 2015

ENJOY Shaping Lotion

Warm weather is the time you might want more of a carefree hairstyle.  If so, you probably need to switch some hairstyling products along to suit the style as well as the conditioner for your hair. With ENJOY Hair Care’s Shaping Lotion, Nourishing and Moisturizing Oil, and Hair Spray that I have been using, I could have found your answer as well for summer hair maintenance.

As you know, I have some natural curl to my hair, which lets me go from curly styles to straighter ones just by adapting the products and using my diffuser. As one that never tried ENJOY’s Shaping Lotion ($23), I thought this product just might come in handy when you want the least amount of fuss for giving some soft control.

By the time I finished drying my hair, I had more fuller curls through my layers that were soft and shiny without feeling tacky to the touch.  My curls had movement but they weren’t all over the place or frizzing out on me even though it was raining when I tried it.

ENJOY Nourishing & Moisturizing Oil.jpeg
ENJOY Nourishing & Moisturizing Oil

Though it is not summer yet, the more time I like to spend outdoors to soak up the sun, which can dry and damage the hair.  To prepare in advance, I thought testing ENJOY’s Nourishing and Moisturizing Oil ($24.95) on my hair now was in order since it could use a bit of help. This product has natural oils, antioxidants and fortifying vitamins like sesame, avocado, coconut, macadamia, evening primrose, safflower, and grape seed oils to deeply moisturize and condition along with vitamins E, A, B, and D.

This leave-in conditioning spray did a great job restoring gloss and softer feel to my hair.  You can also use this oil on the face, which I didn’t try yet.  I will do that once I finish my current skin care testing.

I also tried ENJOY’s Hair Spray ($18).  This has a firm, but flexible hold that kept my hair in place without hardening it like I had on a hard hat.  It also dried fairly fast and went back to shape after taking my brush to it later.

Dial Baby Body + Hair Wash for Ages 0-2

Babies and small children aren’t the only ones that can have extra sensitive skin, especially if the entire family is prone to allergies.  Our family often uses baby shampoo simply because of how gentle is it. Therefore, I signed us up to review new Dial’s Baby Body + Hair Wash and Kids Foaming Hand Wash as a Purex Insider.

The Dial Baby Body + Hair Wash for ages 0 to 2+ is clear, paraben free, ph balanced, and free of scent.  It is also hypo-allergenic, but nothing can say that for sure–only that the ingredients will have the least chance of causing a possible reaction.  Also, this product was developed with pediatric dermatologists to make it tear-free.

Though we do not have a baby, the product was extremely gentle, rinsed out well, and left hair feeling clean when I quizzed the family.

The Dial Kids Foaming Hand that arrived was in the Watery Melon scent. This was a big hit at our house. This product has a pump that dispenses a mound of delicious smelling scent that makes washing small hands less of a chore over a bar of soap. With no artificial dyes, no parabens along with its hypo-allergenic ingredients, it did not irritate in the least and left us clean without any leftover sticky feeling.

Are You Confused About the Right Way to Handle Dandruff?

woman burying hands against her face.jpeg
As upsetting as dandruff can be, it can be corrected simply enough. All it takes is understanding the condition and taking the proper steps.

Dandruff can be an embarrassing problem.  This condition happens because the skin on your scalp is constantly renewing itself and shedding.   It is when those dead cells become trapped and mix with hair oil that it triggers the yeast-like fungus known as
malassezia, causing seborrheic dermatitis.
Before you rush to the drug store, you need to figure out if you have a true case of actual dandruff or just a side effect from styling products.  Making that determination is easy because real dandruff is white and a thicker texture than the clearer variety of what may fall to your shoulders from products.

If you find those styling products are the probable cause, trying a clarifying shampoo could help.  Then again, you could have an allergy from anything in your hair products, especially fragrance that cause that contact dermatitis and dandruff.  Switching to a non-scented line or just a different brand of hair care product could simply fix this.  Actual dandruff needs active ingredients in the shampoo to be effective.

If you were planning on also coloring your hair, you should keep the following in mind. Dandruff can also become more severe since the chemicals in hair color can effect the scalp’s healthy bacteria.  A better idea is to try to rectify the condition first.

The real trick when considering a dandruff shampoo formula is figuring out which dandruff ingredients can best work for the severity of your problem.  If you have severe dandruff and non-colored treated hair, look for selenium sulfide and ketoconazole.  Look for ones with coal tar when there is lots of flaking involved.

Those with milder dandruff would be happier with zinc pyrithione, salicylic acids, or a natural antifungal agent like tea tree oil over the stronger  formulations that can overly dry the hair.

Remember that if you don’t see any progress after several weeks of using those dandruff shampoos, you should make an appointment with a dermatologist.

Fortunately, those white flakes tend to improve somewhat in the summer because sun exposure is capable of inhibiting the fungus responsible.
