Are You Prepared for Surviving When Under an Emergency Situation?

hurricane.jpeg
Are you ready for facing a disaster?

The number and severity of hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes are on the rise due to global warming, which is sad for both the planet and the rest of us.  Therefore, every one of us should have our homes properly stocked to survive just in case of an emergency.

Food and Water Can Help You Survive

Food and water are number one.  According to the government, each member of your household needs one gallon of water per day for drinking and washing.  Yet, how many gallons is enough?

This really depends on the weather’s predicted severity headed in your direction. I talked to someone that went through hurricane Katrina.  They recommended at least three weeks worth of water per person for a situation like that.

Nonperishable food is important.  Stock up on plenty of peanut butter, tuna, granola bars, sardines, canned ham, crackers, powdered milk, liquor such as alcohol or wine, and nuts can help you survive.

Basic Essentials for Daily Living and Medications Are Important to Have On Hand

You also need a manual can opener, paper plates, flashlight, batteries, utensils, paper cups, and a few basins to wash your dishes and more for your personal care in case you have no  plumbing or electricity.

Emergency Radio, Books and Games Help to Pass the Time

At the first warning of impending dangerous weather, be sure to have all medications refilled. You also need toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, soaps like moist cleansing wipes and hand sanitizers, first aid kit, toilet paper, pain relievers,  tissues, games for the children, paper, pens or pencils,  an emergency radio and books to pass the time.

Garbage Bags and Twist Ties for Sanitation Help During an Emergency

Something else you might want to keep handy are garbage bags and twist ties for sanitation purposes.

Cell Phones and Batteries Are Vital for Obtaining Help

Don’t forget your cell phone with chargers and back up batteries.

A whistle around your neck for each member of the household can also be helpful to alert rescue people if you are ever trapped.

This is far from a complete list of recommendations if you ever find yourself stranded in your home due to severe weather, but it is a good place to start.

No one expects bad things to happen--but they do.  Your car can break down in the middle of nowhere where your cell phone might unexpectedly die because you forgot to bring what you need to power it back up.  Then again, there is the possibility of being caught in a natural disaster or you might not even own a cell phone when you find yourself in a tough spot.  How would you get help or communicate with loved ones?   Fortunately, you can handle the situation with a little planning and a SpareOne Emergency Phone by XPal like the one I was sent for this review.

This phone is not meant to be used as your primary cell phone--only as a spare for emergencies.  This could be a real lifesaver, especially if you make it a habit to keep a phone like this as a part of an emergency survival kit  to keep with you.

Items like a blanket, food such as a box of granola bars, first aid supplies, a hammer to break a window when the computer locks, a  flashlight, a Swiss Army knife, and a handy phone like this one could get you out of a jam.

Even if your car is immersed in water by keeping that kit within reach could then be more survivable because you had packed a kit, including a phone that comes in a waterproof bag that floats.  This heavy duty bag can be resealed and handle extreme temperatures.

Inside this phone, you get a Lithium AA battery that the company claims will keep its charge for fifteen years.  Once you pull the tab to operate the power, you can get about ten hours of talking time and a month of standby time according to them.

I liked the oversized buttons and their wide spacing  this phone has to make it easier to work with unsteady fingers if injured or trembling from fear.  Sporting an emergency cross is a  bigger button that can work without a SIM or by inserting one to continue sending and receiving calls,  but no LCD screen only a transparent window to the two multi-colored LED lights regarding the battery life and signal.  You can pre-program nine numbers.

This phone has a LED torchlight that can provide up to twenty-four hours of continuous light.

Furthermore, this SpareOne Emergency Phone has an auto text reply feature.  What happens is that if anyone sends you a text, this phone will reply back with a message that to get in touch with you has to be through a phone call now--not a text.

No one is immune to unexpected problems.  If you feel trouble can only happen to other people, then I assure you it does catch up to everyone at some point in your life.

Therefore, if you want to remain lucky, then make sure you have an emergency kit.  Also, do think of the SpareOne Emergency Phone from XPal.  It retails for $99.99.

The company has programs set  up for schools, churches, clubs, and other organizations to  maximize fundraising efforts or to donate to get these phones in as many hands as possible.  Learn more about  making your community LIVEPREPARED.

Thanks to the company's generosity, hundreds of SpareOne Emergency Phones went out free of charge to Hurricane Sandy victims.
