Food and water are number one.  According to the government, each member of your household needs one gallon of water per day for drinking and washing.  Yet, how many gallons is enough?  

This really depends on the weather’s predicted severity headed in your direction. I talked to someone that went through hurricane Katrina.  They recommended at least three weeks worth of water per person for a situation like that. 

Nonperishable food is important.  Stock up on plenty of peanut butter, tuna, granola bars, sardines, canned ham, crackers, powdered milk, liquor such as alcohol or wine, and nuts can help you survive. 

Basic Essentials for Daily Living and Medications Are Important to Have On Hand

You also need a manual can opener, paper plates, flashlight, batteries, utensils, paper cups, and a few basins to wash your dishes and more for your personal care in case you have no  plumbing or electricity.   

Emergency Radio, Books and Games Help to Pass the Time

At the first warning of impending dangerous weather, be sure to have all medications refilled. You also need toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, soaps like moist cleansing wipes and hand sanitizers, first aid kit, toilet paper, pain relievers,  tissues, games for the children, paper, pens or pencils,  an emergency radio and books to pass the time.  

Garbage Bags and Twist Ties for Sanitation Help During an Emergency

Something else you might want to keep handy are garbage bags and twist ties for sanitation purposes.

Cell Phones and Batteries Are Vital for Obtaining Help 

Don’t forget your cell phone with chargers and back up batteries.  

A whistle around your neck for each member of the household can also be helpful to alert rescue people if you are ever trapped.

This is far from a complete list of recommendations if you ever find yourself stranded in your home due to severe weather, but it is a good place to start.

I am going to tell you a frightening story of what happened to me two years ago just in case you're ever in the same situation.  I developed this strange rash all over every part of my body.  Honestly, I had so much facial swelling with puffy eyes to duck-like lips that I was afraid my distorted face and body design would frighten people. How to Shop More Wisely Before Buying Your Next Foundation

We all have different methods for picking out a great makeup foundation.  Some will buy based on brand reputation that they may have a history with, tempting advertising, recommendations from friends or blogs or just by price.  Others take it a step further and narrow down the choices to address specific needs, which is a far better way to make such a choice.

For instance, you can improve the condition of your skin through your foundation by looking for AHA/BHA (alpha hydroxy acid or beta hydroxy acid) on a label.  Either ingredient won’t do as much as your normal fruit acid skin care, but it will very gently exfoliate through the makeup.  Your complexion will only look brighter with use.

Foundations sporting an SPF of at least 15 are important to protect your complexion, but the truth is the amount we usually apply is hardly enough to keep us safe from the sun.  Therefore, start first with a broad spectrum SPF moisturizer before that foundation and finish with a pressed SPF powder.  Layering in this manner provides three layers of protection to keep your face from aging.  

If your skin breaks out fairly often or tends to oily, then you want to avoid a foundation formula that could bring more oil to your complexion.  Ingredients like kaolin and talc could be your solution since they help absorb excess oil.  Mineral foundation is another answer.

Dry skin benefits more from ingredients such as humectants like hyaluronic acid and emollients such as ceramides.  These types of ingredients can moisturize and smooth to keep the complexion supple in addition to offering perfecting coverage.

Anti-aging ingredients like retinol, peptides, collagen, and niacin help keep the skin younger looking as well as antioxidants like vitamins A, C and E. They defend your complexion from damaging free radicals from the environment. 

Before you make your next purchase, don’t just buy on impulse.  Think what you need that foundation to do and check those labels first.  Your complexion will only benefit!

Why You May Want to Avoid Illuminating Cosmetics When Your Skin Breaks Out

Illuminating foundations and highlighting products are tops in my book for livening up a dull, lifeless complexion to make it appear younger.  However, there are some times that you may want to skip using those products temporarily in favor of others.

If your skin is currently breaking out, then casting light on it will only show those imperfections more.   A better alternative would be a matte liquid foundation until your complexion improves. 

This is the time to think about your makeup choices carefully.

Mineral powder foundations also are excellent for hiding problem skin.  This choice doesn’t introduce extra shine and irritating chemicals that could make the complexion worse.  Instead, your aim should be focusing attention away from your problem skin.  This is a good time to concentrate more on your eyes or lips with shimmering shades of eye shadows and glossy, unforgettable lips.

My Refreshing Peppermint Salt Scrub

1-3/4 cups of sea salt
1/4 cup of jojoba oil
½ cups of sweet almond oil
10 drops of peppermint essential oil

Mix the ingredients together and massage your clean feet.  The action will remove that hard, dry skin and leave it much smoother. Those feet will also be better moisturized.

Inside, you get three different shades of vitamin-E enriched powders.  Boost is a shimmering champagne highlight.   Attitude is basically white intertwined with traces of pink and violet-blue.  It also has some gleam to it, but offers more of a powder finish.  Upgrade is a soft rose-gold highlight that also lends a delicate gleam to wherever you need it.  

My complexion ranges between fair to light.  I thought Boost and Upgrade worked well for me just as I feel they would for others with the same skin tone.  Attitude doesn’t provide that same subtle glow since it is the palette’s color correcting powder.

Yet, all is not perfect.  You do get some fallout, which may bother some.
