My DIY Lip Scrub Is a Sweet Fix for Dry, Flaky Winter Lips That Also Heals and Conditions

two-sets-of-mouths.jpeg
Your lips won't suffer or be rough againe once you try my DIY lip scrub recipe.

At this time of year, you’re probably slathering on plenty of lip balm to relieve dry, winter lips.  Besides the uncomfortable feel, dry lips also leave them with a rougher than you hardly want.  Therefore, exfoliation is a must to smooth that flaky skin and condition with some healing lubrication like this easy homemade lip scrub that takes only minutes to help end that problem.

All you need are few basics from your kitchen that you won’t have to run out to buy. Sugar is what I use to exfoliate due to the texture of its crystals.

Honey is the healing humectant to treat any of the fine cracks that can happen when the lips are chapped  and helping lock in natural moisture.

To make it tastier, I found measuring out just a little vanilla extract even better to improve upon the flavor.  If you're not a fan of vanilla, you can substitute another extract with your favorite flavor.

Finally, I add some pure extra virgin olive oil as the lubricant to condition and protect with all its beneficial vitamin A and E antioxidants.  Another reason I depend on the purest form of olive oil for this DIY recipe is because the extra virgin variety has antibacterial properties to disinfect due to the mix of its polyphenols (oleuropein, tyrosol, and hydroxytyrosol).

My DIY Lip Scrub

1 tablespoon of sugar
1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract
½ teaspoons of honey
½ teaspoons of extra virgin olive oil

Mix all the above ingredients together in your bowl or container.

Apply to your freshly washed lips and massage gently in a small, circular fashion as you work.  Keep working the scrub in for about a minute or two

Wipe off with a paper towel, tissue or a wash cloth.

Your lips will thank you for it and feel soothed along with a new, velvet-like smoothness and the ideal surface for your lipsticks and glosses.

Why You May Want to Try Curly Hair Products for Help With Dry, Damaged Hair

You may want to consider trying some curly hair care products for your hair type, too!

As I mentioned, I have some natural curl in my hair.  When it is one length, the weight of my thick hair flattens the curl into more gentle waves than full curls.  The story changes once I get a layered cut.  The more layers, the more curls that spring up.  Despite how I style my hair, I still always turn to curly hair products to tame and boost moisture more often than other varieties.

The reason I keep coming back to curly hair products is because of the extra moisture this type provides my dry hair for more thorough conditioning.  The reason for more intensive lubrication in this formula is due to handling this hair’s unique texture and porosity.

The degree of curl determines how heavy the emollients in the formula are most likely to be.  For example, the products for tight, small curls have the richest ingredients for moisture such as shea butter, coconut oil, avocado oil, or jojoba oil for keeping the strands healthy and at their best. On the other hand, a lighter form can be in a product such as a spray.  You just need to experiment and find the right formula that won't weigh your hair down.

Curly hair products also have more ingredients for strengthening, which is another reason to love them when the hair is brittle. If you want to rescue suffering, damaged or coarse hair, try some curly hair products like a smoothing creme, conditioner, mousse etc. and see the extra conditioning benefits that you’ll find in addition to styling.   Give it a try and you'll see how much faster that your hair will come back to its former glory!
