A Shortcut for Laundering Hand-Washed Delicate Pieces

A new colander can come in handy.

A delicate piece of clothing or lingerie that needs hand-washed can be inconvenient if you have limited space or wash something like stockings or a bra and hang in your bathroom.  The freshly washed piece can drip, cause a mess or cause problems if you share the space with someone.  However, there is a simple solution to avoid any mess or inconvenience to any family member or roommate that I want to share with you.

What I like to do is use a colander (not the one for cooking, but a new one) just for this purpose of laundering my delicate pieces.  You can do one or two pieces, then rinse them in the colander. Using a new colander makes it quicker for the pieces to drain before taking them to their new location to dry.

Try buying a colander for laundering your delicate items, too!  You’ll save yourself so much time and trouble.

NEW Purex plus Clorox 2 Detergent Review

Here is  a cozy sweatshirt  that I hate to part with that had some old stains AFTER washing it with Purex plus Clorox 2.

Purex challenged the Insider community to put hard to tackle stains to the test using their newest detergent, Purex plus Clorox 2.  According to the company, this stain fighter is equipped to solve 100 of the toughest stains you might think of.  Naturally, I didn’t hesitate and wanted to get involved to test it out on a few of my own stains.

The great thing about this particular Purex detergent is that it is also safe for colors and is bleach-free yet has powerful Clorox 2 stain fighters.  It is available in two scents, the Sunny Linen that I received and Original Fresh.

I had some old stains of unknown origin on a sweatshirt, which probably was grease and a chocolate spot because I can also be a messy cook.  I also had a few other pieces that had some problems so I thought this was the ideal time to pre-treat these stains and poured some on the affected areas before starting my load.

The directions state give this detergent at least five minutes first if applying directly to the item.  Instead, I gave some extra time, more like 10-15 minutes while I had my morning coffee.

Once I took that load out of my dryer, I was impressed.  That old sweatshirt brightened and mostly all the spots except for one small spot, which I accidentally missed when pre-treating were gone.

I definitely will be buying Purex plus Clorox 2 Detergent because if it worked this well on an old, set in spots, it will probably do even better on fresh stains.  Do check this product out because it really does do what it claims.

Purex Crystals ScentSplash In-Wash Fragrance Booster in Fresh Lavender Blossom

Ever since being introduced to the original Purex Crystals as a Purex Insider project, my laundry is never complete without that product to add alongside my detergent.  The amazing scent is one thing, but I love how this product seems to perk up the look of even old clothes while infusing that scent deeply into the fabric without any harm. When I had the chance to try the latest addition to that line, I had to sign up to test the Purex Crystals ScentSplash in-wash fragrance booster. 

Unlike the dry form of crystal scent beads of the original, this new product has those scent beads in liquid form.  I got the Fresh Lavender Blossom scent, but it also comes in Fresh Spring Waters, and Fresh Mountain Breeze.

You use the Purex Crystals ScentSplash the same way that you do the crystals by adding directly to the washer or the in-wash tray with the detergent.  The recommended amount is a half capful per load or use as much or as little as you want.  For a large load, I went with the suggested amount and used less when I had a small load.  This worked well for me.

I love what this stuff does for lingerie for even more freshness.  That beautiful scent of lavender is released every time I open my lingerie drawer since this test.  

Guess what?  I will be picking up the other two Purex Crystals ScentSplash in-wash fragrance boosters in those other scents soon.  Honestly, give both forms of Purex Crystals a try because they are sensational for laundry to the point where you’ll wonder how you ever lived without them.

Purex Powershot Liquid Detergent

When I heard, Purex came up with a bottle that made measuring liquid detergent foolproof, I thought it was a brilliant idea. Now you don’t have to guess anymore of how much you poured into one of caps thanks to PowerShot.

Because with PowerShot all that called for is flipping the bottle upside down and it fills up with exactly the amount of detergent needed for a regular load.  Turn the bottle around to its upright position and you can start again. A large load you simply repeat the process twice and you are good to go. I can’t think of anything more simple, convenient and less messy than this.

I just love this bottle especially if you have a hard time seeing, then I guarantee you will be a fan as well.


As to the PowerShot liquid detergent itself, my Mountain Breeze scented formula left that airy freshness lingering in the load I washed and cleaned the clothes beautifully in the process.  It will also come in the Natural Elements Linen & Lilies scent as well when it appears on store shelves in February, which I intend to try next.

I honestly buy Purex products because they do a great job on laundry and save you money at the time.  You do seem to use less than powdered detergents that I used in the past before discovering the brand.  If you haven't found Purex yet, then might want to start with PowerShot that will be here soon!

Wisk Deep Clean Laundry Detergent Review

Now that the holidays and all those calorie-laden foods are behind us then you may have put on a few extra pounds.  If that’s the case, you’ll be hitting the gym more to get your body back and dealing with some foul smelling workout clothes to launder.

Did you know that your workout clothes after a vigorous hour exercise can contain about 27.4 to 47.3 oz. of sweat? Just as disgusting is that sweat can be locked into the fibers of those clothes along with the grime, but Wisk Deep Clean Laundry Detergent that I was asked to review was formulated to penetrate deep into the fabric to better solve that problem.

I never used this liquid detergent before it did a nice job of cleaning and removing odor without costing very much. Wisk Deep Clean kept the color in as well and worked in both hot and cold water with the same results, which I liked.

Purex Crystals make even your old clothes look newer while permeating them with lasting fragrance.  When I heard that the company had another variety with their Purex Crystals Aromatherapy, I was pleased when invited to test it.

I received the Purex Crystals Aromatherapy Well Being fragrance, but there is also the Energy and Serenity scents as well.  

As you can imagine, I was eager to give it a try so I did a load of laundry.  These pink crystals are infused with essential oils that made its beautiful floral aroma therapeutic somehow.This may seem hard to believe, but I felt my spirits lifting and started to enjoy being in my laundry room next to that washer.  

In fact, I did a second load just of our nightwear and then a third with bedding because I wanted to blissfully drift off to sleep inhaling that scent.

I am hooked on Purex Crystals Aromatherapy and definitely will pick up the other two scents.  No joke, you need to try this product because it is fantastic for what it brings to your clothes and now for brightening your mood!

As a Purex Insider, I was fortunate enough to review many of their fine products.  However, my absolute favorite project was being introduced to the original Purex Complete Crystals.  I love that laundry softener so much because everything I wash with it looks practically brand new afterwards with incredible softness and an amazing scent that lasts for quite a while.   As you can guess, I was thrilled to learn there was new Purex Crystals Fresh Mountain Breeze on the market.

Purex Crystals Fresh Mountain Breeze is so easy to use besides being safe for the environment.  Instead of having to add any the laundry enhancer later, you get to save yourself work.  You pour a cap in with your load at the beginning and then you are done.  What awaited me once I poured these 87% natural fragrant crystals in with my wash was like breathing in springtime itself.  The scent was airy outdoors only inside my laundry.

My clothes looked, felt, and smelled amazing.  In fact, that awesome scent lingered and is still just as fresh now since I did that particular load.  Ask yourself what can be better than that when you go to wear it?

Grow Back Your Favorite Shrunken Sweater With This Simple Trick!

Usually, the pieces that you love the most are the ones that get accidentally ruined.  How your favorite sweater went from fitting you like a dream into one better suited for a child can be frustrating as well as expensive.

So instead of blaming yourself for what happened because you suddenly need to buy another to replace it, I have a simple trick that you may want to try to grow your shrunken sweater back.

All you need is to take that shrunken garment and soak that sweater in cold water for three hours with one-half cup of plain salt (without iodine).

When that amount of time is up, gently wash your sweater as you normally do.

However, you will need to add one-half cup of a hair conditioner to the rinse water. By doing so, you will be delicately loosening those stressed and tightened fibers.

Some sweaters will return and grow back better than others. Nonetheless, this sweater trick did seem to work miracles on a few of my sweaters that I, otherwise, would have given up on as hopeless.

Just in case you find yourself in this situation, I hope you try this tip because it does help grow that sweater back!

Purex Ultra Packs plus Oxi are so convenient and mess free.  Each pack is already measured with liquid laundry detergent so you can spend less time measuring out detergent.  In fact, you will less spend time in your laundry room in general once you throw one of those packs into your machine because this is powerful stain fighting action at work with their concentrated DirtLift action formula.

This product is formulated for all machines, including high-efficiency models.  Each pack does one full load and dissolves almost instantly, releasing a pleasant fragrance.  This nice scent came in handy especially with the load of offensive workout clothes that I tossed in the sudsy bubbles.  

To tell the truth, I couldn't believe how well these detergent capsules worked when I examined those clothes later.  Despite that these weren't new pieces, this ultrapack seemed to give the clothes some new life as well as brighten.  The items also were infused with that clean, fresh fragrance I noticed when putting them away.

Babies aren't the only ones with sensitivity issues and delicate noses.   Some detergents and fabric softeners are less than gentle when it comes to skin.   Needless to say, I never had problems with any formula of Purex as I occasionally had with other brands.  Therefore, I looked forward to giving my laundry an added bit of baby-safe freshness with Purex Crystals for Baby since this company's formulations have gained my trust.

Along with the Purex Baby detergent, I added the 87% natural Purex Crystals for Baby at the start of my wash.  Unlike other fabric softeners that can build up in clothing fibers, the crystals in this formula do not linger and pose a  potential fire hazard, which gives you peace of mind especially when it comes to children's sleepwear.

This softener is hypo-allergenic and free of dyes and strong fragrance.  Instead, you will find the scent pleasant and light plus the fabrics are soft enough to cuddle when you hold them close.

According to the advertising, these crystals infuse into the fabric and keep that beautiful smell for a lot longer like weeks.  Since I just received this  product a few days ago and only had a chance to do a few loads, I hardly had time to put that claim to the test.  

However, I did wash my blankets and am looking forward to putting them to a timely sniff test later.  But for now, I can tell you that they smell beautiful when I was folding them.

Once I reviewed the Purex Crystals and noticed the amazing clean and freshness without any of that scary fabric softener residue that could linger and later catch fire, I switched to this product at our house.  Jockey undergarments are also what I typically buy and was delighted when I had this chance to do this review and giveaway of the ultimate freshness duo of Purex Crystals in the Tropical Splash fragrance along with a Jockey Tech Terry sports bra with special moisture-wicking to keep dry and at your best while working out.

The reason I call these two products as the ultimate freshness duo is because Purex Crystals are 92% natural crystals that infuse long-lasting freshness and that heavenly scent of Tropical Splash, Fresh Spring Waters, or Lavender Blossom into the fabric fibers without harming the material or any oily buildup behind  to cause a potential fire!  Until this product came along, washing performance sportswear like this Jockey Tech Terry sports bra with typical fabric softener was not recommended since the oil would accumulate in time to make the wicking ineffective.  However, Purex Crystals revolutionized the way you can maintain your workout wear and feel cleaner and smelling better longer!

This bra fit well and what was nice about it besides that moisture-wicking was the fact it had breathable mesh panels, a soft bottom band that didn't pinch plus a handy key pocket.  You know how handy that feature can be when at a gym. A reflective logo is on the back if you need to take your shirt off for a run, perhaps for when it gets dark.

Once I laundered my new Jockey bra with this Tropical Splash scent of Purex Crystals that I was sent, I was one happy camper with this awesome smell that kept on going even when I wore it again.

If you think all fabric softeners are the same, then you are dead wrong.  Purex Crystals is a safer alternative and will not linger in the fibers of your clothes for any chance of a fire hazard.  Can you say that about your old fabric softener?

One of the advantages of being a Purex Insider is trying their new products before they hit the stores.  This time I was sent their Purex Triple Action UltraPacks Liquid Laundry Detergent to do this review.

What I thought was fantastic was this laundry detergent comes pre-measured in a convenient little pack to avoid measuring and spilling or wasting extra time in the laundry room surrounded by stinky clothes.

This powerful pre-dosed liquid contains twice the concentration of regular liquid laundry detergent and all the performance of their Triple Action liquid formula in each pack.  These Purex Triple Action UltraPacks can be used in all washing machines, including high-efficiency ones.

All I did was to drop a pack in and fill my washing machine as usual before adding my load.  The package itself is re-sealable and with one quick run of my hand I locked it back until next time without dropping any powder or accidentally spilling liquid, which often happens when you're in a rush.

I found this pack dissolved well even in cold water while the scent I chose, the Mountain Fresh, left my clothes smelling incredible and so fresh.  However, you will be able to buy this and the Free & Clear formulation once the products launch in February 2012.

My clothes came out beautifully clean and soft.  I must say, I am going to be buying more of this detergent once it comes out!  With our hectic lives, I think you also would trying this product and saving some time as well.

Run Out of Gentle Detergent for Your Delicate Washables?

For those times when you just forgot to restock that special care detergent for your delicate garments, you don't have to worry.  I found a cheap substitute that also works.

Shampoo will solve that problem and clean those items in a pinch.   Just add a small dollop to some cold water and rub the piece gently.  Rinse the item thoroughly and lay flat to dry.
