How to Get More Skin Help From Your Moisturizers Regardless of Complexion Type!

smiling businesswoman with perfect skin.jpeg
You'll be smiling too once you tweak your moisturizing routine and power it up.

Every complexion has special needs if you want it to look its best.  Therefore, you want to keep your skin happy by moisturizing it with a plan suited to your individual complexion type instead of just slathering on a product or a method that could be delaying beautiful results.

If you have a dry complexion like mine, you’ll boost the power of your moisturizer before you apply by simply leaving your freshly washed face slightly damp or giving it a light spray with rosewater first.  Once you do this, you will be allowing the moisturizer to lock the water into the skin far better than you may imagine for superior hydration.

Do You Know the Difference Between Humectants, Occlusives and Emollients When It Comes to Your Skin Care?

Pure Harmony Moisturizer cream.jpeg
Some basic knowledge about  your moisturizer's composition helps make a more informed decision when buying for your skin care needs.

Reading skin care labels can be confusing.  However, if you have a basic understanding of humectants, occlusives, and emollients when shopping for your skin care products, then you can better address your particular skin care needs.

Humectants are the ingredients in the product that attract water from the surface to the skin cell itself.  For example, some common ingredients to look for are hyaluronic acid, glycerin, panthenol, urea, lactic acid, ammonium lactate, butylene glycol, sodium PCA, sorbitol, PCA, diglycerin, and sodium lactate among others.

Occlusives are the ingredients that trap the hydration to keep the water from evaporating.  Occlusive agents are ingredients like squalene, dimethicone, cyclomethicone, cocoa butter, shea butter, beeswax, propylene glycol, mineral oil, and lanolin are just some names they you might come across.

Emollients, on the other hand, are the ingredients that do the actually softening and smoothing lubrication of the outer layer of the skin.  Ingredients such as plant oils like coconut, jojoba, sesame, and almond oils are wonderful emollients.  Others include olive oil, cetyl alcohol, and paraffin.  Shea butter, cocoa butter, beeswax and squalene are multitasking ingredients that are both emollient and occlusive in how that function.

When you have an idea of how these types of ingredients work, it is much easier to pinpoint what to expect from how those moisturizers might work for you when they appear together in combination.

If You Want the Best Finish, Give Some Thought to the Moisturizer You Use Before Makeup!

Beautiful smiling woman.jpeg
This beauty can smile because she knows how to look flawless in addition to keeping her gorgeous skin comfortable.

If you’ve been in the habit of applying just any type of moisturizer instead of a primer as a base before your makeup and want to have a better finish, you need to skip the fancier, anti-aging variety for this purpose. Instead, a smarter choice is sticking to a basic SPF moisturizer.

The reason I suggest a basic moisturizer is because it can plump up the skin more effectively and even out your complexion since this simpler variety can lack all those extra active ingredients that can limits its hydration power.

A plain, non-greasy lotion works wonderfully, being lightweight and yet moisturizing enough for providing that smoothness and glow you need to give your face a great, primed surface.

Review: Korres Wild Rose + Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial

Korres Wild Rose + Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping FacialAdd caption

I had never tried any skin care products from Greek brand, Korres until testing their Wild Rose + Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial. However, I think once you hear what I have to say that you will want to clear out the clutter and make room for this one because this brightening treatment is a keeper!

At first, I didn’t see too much of a difference after applying this luxurious cream with wild rose oil, vitamin C, and imperata cylindrica root extract among other advantageous ingredients that I could speak of.  But the longer I used this beautifully scented rose cream and switched to using it as a daytime moisturizer in addition to a night treatment, I noticed my pores looked like they kept shrinking and the tone was evening out. The color of my complexion was changing as well with more luminosity. Even a small mark looked like it was stretching and smoothing over more than before using this Korres product.

There are many skin care options for brightening and improving skin tone as they moisturize, but if you have dull skin that could use a healthy boost, then I highly recommend Korres Wild Rose + Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial ($48).  Do try this product now and be happier with your complexion later!

Moisturizer Tricks That Will Save Your Face and Wallet!

Since skin care products can run into money, you need to get all their worth and maximizing what they can do for you.  Sometimes, we just slap on our day or night creams without much thought as how much we should be using.  However, you may be overusing or under using those products and receiving less of those skin benefits you need.  Therefore, you should try the following recommended amounts to help your wallet and skin thrive.

All you need of your day cream is enough to cover your face and neck.  Squeeze or dig out about an inch size amount in the palm of your hand should do the trick.

Night creams are richer and more concentrated skin creams.  Thus, you need less.  Depending on the formula, you may want anywhere from a 3/4-inch size or 1/2-inch circle of the product in your hand to do the job.

To further make those moisturizing creams or lotions more effective, you also need to start applying them to your freshly washed skin while it's still damp.  What's important is getting that day or night cream on within three or four minutes.  By doing so, you will seal in the moisture and better help feeding your skin those nourishing ingredients.

Another way to get more action out of those products is to massage them in your skin for about 20 seconds or so.  This little trick will get your blood moving as it boosts circulation and helps push that product into your skin.  Finish by lightly tapping the treated area with the pads of your fingers for about five or six times to get those products even deeper.

Finally, you need to be careful where you store your skin care products to keep them effective.  Keep them out of direct sunlight, the bathroom, or near the heat will prolong their life.

Also, always check that you close the lids and screw them tightly.  Otherwise, you risk the product to oxidation and allow some ingredients to start breaking down in potency.

With a little extra care, your skin care products should serve you better!
