Blemish Cover Up Tricks That Won’t Leave You in the Lurch!

Have you ever noticed that blemishes always seem to pop up when you have something important planned? Maybe it is the stress or anxiety of the event that influences hormones to do this nastiness to our faces. I just know it is really upsetting when you need to look your absolute best and that blemish spoils it.

In an earlier post, I shared what I used to do for concealing when this problem would happen to me. However, I forgot to mention something important that can also help better cover up that fresh pimple.

If you were the habit of priming first before concealing, then you may want to stop using that primer in the area when your face is under blemish attack.  The reason you may to avoid facial primer near that spot when you have a fresh blemish is that quite a few are silicone-based, which can clog pores to infect it and make matters worse.  

Instead, try switching out that facial primer for eye primer at this time before proceeding with your thicker textured concealer or one with salicylic acid if you break out a lot.  Since the eye primers are formulated for that delicate skin of the eye area, the ingredients are less likely to be comedogenic to clog the pores.

Another way to keep eyes off of that problem area is to divert their attention elsewhere.  Playing up your eyes with color or some smoky boldness and lots of mascara will force their eyes upward away from that blemish.

I honestly hope your face remains clear, but we’ve all been there.  At least now, these cover up tricks do help so keep these makeup tips in mind.

A Trick for Finding the Right Type of Concealer for Your Beauty Issues to Maximize Results!

We all have beauty problems from under eye darkness, blemishes to uneven pigmentation that we would rather keep to ourselves.  Depending on what you need to hide, you probably will want several different concealer varieties with different textures, if you intend to keep those flaws out of sight.

For instance, creamy liquid concealers are lighter formulas.  These are best for when your dark circles are not that noticeable.   Just remember, the thicker, drier concealer, whether in a stick or a small pot, is one that provides more opaque coverage for heavier duty concealing such as handling serious under eye darkness, blemishes or to hide acne scarring, dark spots or any discoloration to correct your skin tone.

Besides texture, color is just as important in getting this problem right.  However, shopping for the perfect shade can be challenging considering store lighting or buying an unseen cosmetic online.  Yet, what I find that does help is to buy two shades of concealer that I can later customize to match the color I need. Usually, I notice that ones that have some peach tones are the best to offset under eye darkness.

Using a small concealer brush is something I found as the most artful way to cover dark circles or paint over a blemish or scar.  You can reach eye areas more precisely by brush than you ever could with your fingers to lay down the product.  

Another thing that I learned and, perhaps, one of the most value tips when it comes to concealing is layering the product until getting the coverage that works.  Building up additional layers of concealer can change everything for you.

Whether you blame that darkness under your eyes from lack of sleep, heredity, too much sun exposure that causes the discoloration from melanin that is released, the aging process due to thinner skin in the area with fewer deposits of fat and collagen that formerly hid the blood vessels or allergies, it is one of the biggest problems most of us complain about.  

Living with allergies over the years has forced me to become somewhat of an expert in the art of concealment.  What I am sharing with you is through my accumulated experience of what worked the best in my case.

The blacker the darkness is, the more that you might want a heavier formula than a sheerer one that often can come in a wand.  Consider the color just one shade lighter than your skin tone.  Avoid the mistake of trying to whiten the darkness out with too pale of a color because it will only ring the eyes with a white cast instead.

What works the best for me on those days when I see a lot of dark blue-purple beneath my eyes is opting for one that has light peach to it.  Though you may be satisfied with the coverage, I always think that a formula with light-reflecting pigments does more than just conceal as it brightens up the area.

Invest in a concealer brush because it will allow you to ideally place coverage where a finger can be clumsy. The brush will give you more control than that finger ever could to maneuver in tight spaces near the corner of the eye.  I found using a narrow, firm brush with a tapered flat head works the best.

However, if you need to use your finger, stick to just the little finger because it won’t put as much pressure as you work on that fragile skin.  Besides, it is a better fit for this purpose.  Make sure to gently pat the concealer as your finger moves along its path.  After all, you want the product to stay put to do the job instead of transferring to your finger.

If you notice the concealer caking in your fine lines, the formula probably is too thick.  What you can do is slightly dampen your finger and gently smooth it over. 

I never thought dabbing some loose powder was as important as it is for keeping concealer in place, but it makes all the difference.  Champagne highlighting powder can further brighten up the skin while locking the product in place wonderfully.

When the darkness is especially at its worst, I found you do something else to distract away from it.  What I do is to concentrate attention to focus elsewhere on my face.  Try using a brighter lipstick or shade of blush that day will pull eyes more to where you look better.

Mineral Fusion Neutral Concealer Duo

Though my under eye darkness has improved since discovering Mineral Fusion’s Brightening Eye Cream, I still need concealer to cover what remains.  PR sent along the brand’s Concealer Duo in Neutral so that I may try.

This 100% vegan concealer has pycnogenol, sea kelp, vitamins C and E, and licorice root for protecting and soothing the skin.  What it does not contain is paraben, phthalate, SLS or fragrance to concern yourself with. Nor does this brand test on animals, which is also to this company’s credit.

The consistency of the product is thick and creamy.  Though you can apply with your finger to beneath moisturized, primed eyes, I recommend using your concealer brush for doing your best work.  This concealer covers shadows nicely, but remember to lightly powder over where you laid the product down to keep it lasting longer.  Otherwise, it could travel to your creases, if you have them.

Only one of the two shades in this Neutral pan was light enough for me to use.  The other was too dark, a peachy-beige for it to do my fair coloring much good.

Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer in Fair

A product that most of us can’t live without is concealer.  Since I heard a lot of great buzz about the ones from Amazing Cosmetics, I just had to see for myself  how well their Amazing Concealers and Perfection Stick covered, disguised and corrected what needed done on my face.

The company was kind enough to send me two different shades of their Little Amazing Concealer ($28) in Fair and Fair Golden.   This is a travel size .2 fl. oz., but they also have a larger .5 fl. oz. size ($42). However, I like this smaller tube because this full coverage, highly pigmented, waterproof concealer can go a long way before it will be used up.

The consistency of this product is not thick, but still creamy and somewhat liquid. Do shake the tube thoroughly before you attempt to squeeze some out to make sure it blends well. 

Amazing Cosmetics concealer brush is a quality tool for applying concealer, especially for hard to reach areas like under the eyes for doing a more thorough job.  

I was glad that they also supplied me with a concealer brush because this formula was ideal to paint under eye dark circles.  The size head of that brush made my application more precise as I patted a tiny dot of it in, especially when it came to getting the area near the bottom lashes and the corners of my eyes. 

The first swatch on the left is Amazing Concealer Fair Golden, then Fair and ending with the Perfection Stick (Fair) swatch.

All I needed was one coat of this concealer to banish my current darkness.  In its place, their formula managed to brighten as it hid and flawlessly blended into my natural skin color without settling into my creases over time.  I could wear either shade, but I prefer the lighter Fair color for how it suited my complexion.  There are 18 other shades available.

The Perfection Stick ($23) was something else I was fond of using for all the things this chubby pencil did to help beautify me.  I liked it for throwing in my handbag for bringing some light where I need it or to spot cover a skin problem or under eye darkness, if the occasion called for it when away from home. For heavy under eye darkness, you'll still want the Amazing Concealer because this is lighter and gives more of a brightening effect.  It was also great for playing with my lip line or to even out your skin tone.  This self-sharpening pencil comes in three other shades besides Fair that I selected.

I don’t know how I ever missed trying Amazing Cosmetics until now, but I’m glad that I finally tried a few of their products.  After my experience with their concealers, I do intend on looking into more of their products. Do check them out as well!

If your goal is mesmerizing eyes, then you need to make sure that you banish all under eye darkness first. My allergies can make this often difficult when I try to conceal forcing me to buy one product after the next. Being Summer, my fair complexion has a bit more color from the sun than my pale winter skin.  Therefore, the Neutral/Medium shade of this concealer was the best match for my under eyes.

This is the new Heavenly Luxe Magic Eraser #15 Brush.  You won't get into the corners as you would a thin concealer brush, but  this is what you want for blending that concealer just so.

Ever since I started using concealer brushes, I noticed how much better my application than relying on your fingers.  To apply this concealer, I used my thinner concealer brush to smooth the product to the inner corners of my eye and higher under the eyes compared to my finger before using the fatter Heavenly Luxe Magic Eraser #15 Brush ($29) for going over the area to buff everything to perfection.  You do need both size of concealer brushes because they help you do different things.

Why You May Want to Reconsider Using Your Finger to Blend Your Under Eye Concealer!

Don't hide behind sunglasses for dark under eye circles.  Instead, discover how to better cover them for ideal coverage! 

Of course, you can apply your under eye concealer with a finger.  I have often done that.  It is quick and always saves you from cleaning an extra makeup brush.  However, I stopped once I understood why I kept needing to change one formula of under eye concealer for the next. 

What I learned is that the oils in our fingers warm as we blend that concealer, causing the formula to thin out instead of give more substantial coverage as intended. I found that relying on a concealer brush really made the concealer cover more thoroughly.  

Excited by this finding, I decided to test this theory on a few other liquid under eye concealers that I was about to toss that were still in my makeup bag.  Believe it or not, a concealer brush will help improve the quality of that darkness coverage most of the time. I cannot say all of those under eye concealers passed the test to my satisfaction because some formulas were still less than perfect, but there was a definite difference.

I dare you to try this same experiment before you replace a concealer that hasn’t lived up to your expectations.  You just might find that the cause of that poor under eye coverage isn’t coming from the product itself–-only from the addition of the oils from your fingers as you work it into to your skin to change the integrity of its formula.

Pur Minerals Disappearing Ink 4-in-1 Concealer Pen (Light) Review + SWATCHES!

Pur Minerals Disappearing Ink 4-in-1 Concealer Pen (Light)

One cosmetic that I find indispensable is concealer, especially if you have year round allergies as I do. Therefore, I am always interested in testing new ones to see if they fare better for my darkness problem than their processors.  This time I got to put Pur Minerals Disappearing Ink 4-in-1 Concealer Pen (Light) to the test.

This product is a pushup pen that not only covers and brightens with its diamond complex, but also cares for the skin with anti-aging ingredients found in ceretin complex.

What I found was great was that it went on smooth, did an excellent job of hiding the darkness, and didn’t settle into fine lines under eyes as some others do over time.  You can really wear this products for hours without worrying about creasing.

The only thing that disappointed me was how dark Pur Minerals made their lightest shade.  Their Light was entirely too deep beige for someone like me that is fair to light.  I have used other concealer shades labeled Light without any problem.  This one, however, was more on the order of a medium shade to me.

My only wish is that Pur Minerals adjust the color or simply add a Fair color for those of us that are paler.

A Helpful Trick to Conceal Serious Under Eye Darkness!

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer is one of my favorites.

Trying to cover up my allergic shiners has taught me quite a few things of what works and what does not when it comes to dealing with heavy duty under eye darkness. What I am about to share with you is a great trick to use on those days when your circles are extremely dark.

Try dabbing some creamy white eye shadow in the corners of your eyelids at the top and bottom. Those ladies with a dark complexion can try the same technique only use a light brown shadow instead. Now blend well before layering on concealer on the area and around the eyes.

I also found that the best shades of concealer are ones that have pink, peach or yellow undertones to offset the blue and green darkness lurking beneath your eyes. 

Furthermore, concealers that have light-reflecting pigments are the most helpful.  This variety of concealer will redirect light–and attention away from that darkness.

On those occasions, I suggest steering clear of certain eye shadow colors such as purple, red, plum and blue shades.  Instead of being complimentary, those particular colors will work against you.  You’ll just end up looking like you lost a fight so keep that in mind when making up your eyes and opt for ones that are neutral or have warm tones in brown, peach, or gold.

Review: Mally Beauty Pro-Tricks Correcting Palette (Lighter)

Mally Beauty Pro-Tricks Correcting Palette (Lighter)

Each of us knows what we consider our best features and those other features we think less of.  However, learning how to fool the eye with makeup to cast highlights and shadows can dramatically alter a face.  I had the opportunity to put Mally Beauty’s Pro-Tricks Correcting Palette to see how it would work for just that purpose.

Mally Beauty’s Pro-Tricks Correcting Palette has three shades in one compact with a lighter highlight shade, a middle shade that is a bit darker, and then a deeper color for contouring. Being fair-skinned, I went with the Lighter version of this palette over the Deeper one.

I prepped first with this palette of what Mally Roncal terms “war paint” before my foundation and the rest of my makeup. I began with the darkest and brushed some of this creamy shade underneath my jaw line, in the hollows of my cheeks, down the sides of my nose, and under the tip of my nose to create the illusions I needed. 

Next, I went with the lightest color for the top of my cheekbones, in the center of my forehead, under my eyes, at the bridge of my nose, underneath the eyebrows, and at the center of my chin.  You can also mix both light shades for the under eye area depending on your coloring, but I preferred using the palest color along. 
  
Afterwards, I dabbed on my foundation and normal under eye concealer before I finally went to work blending everything together.  At once, I noticed my face went from being oval to having more chiseled cheeks, a higher forehead, a slimmer nose, and a lift in the eye area. I finished off with my other cosmetics and really liked what I saw in the mirror using this palette.

Here's a Quick Trick to Make Wrinkles Less Noticeable!

If you have a problem with makeup settling into the wrinkles around your eyes, then I have a great suggestion to help improve that situation.  Try mixing a dab of concealer with some of your eye cream before applying.  Once you do, you will like the difference.

For those other lines on your face, you might try mixing a bit of foundation with moisturizer just on those areas with those bothersome wrinkles.  

How to Better Conceal a Blemish!

Don’t you hate when your face is clear and then suddenly you get what feels like a massive pimple to ruin your day?  If you want to hide it better, then there are a few suggestions to make that offending blemish more discreet.

First, you might want to try masking the redness just as you would with bloodshot eyes with a drop or two of eye drops like Visine.  Believe it or not, it helps reduce the redness since it constricts the blood vessels.  The only thing I advise is to drop the eye drops on a cotton swab and dot only on the pimple instead of directly from the bottle.  After all, you want to keep a healthy flow of blood still going to the rest of your complexion.

When it comes time to do your makeup, you would be better off saving your liquid concealer for under your eyes and turning to a stick form.  The liquid formulas provide lighter coverage than the heavier consistency of a stick concealer.

Another helpful thing is to use an oil-free concealer with salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide or sulfur in the formula, if you have it in your stash.  Since I only used to break out infrequently such as before an important date, like a pending interview, I always just went with a regular stick concealer, instead of running out and buying something special.

Now the real trick is the application.  For this, I recommend using a clean eyeliner brush over your fingers or a concealer brush.  The reason an eyeliner brush is what you want is because its tiny size will give you the control you need to be artistic.  You just might be surprised at how much more accurate you can be as you dab so just the right amount of concealer goes on without piling on too much, which only does the reverse by calling attention to the problem.

I do hope your face stays beautifully clear and you won’t need to try this advice.  However, if you do find yourself under attack by a pimple, then please do give this trick a shot because it does help.

Mally Beauty Cancellation Concealer System (Fair) Can Help Banish Darkness (Review)

I count myself lucky to have a nice complexion.  However, my luck ran out when it came to under eye darkness due to my constant battle with year-round allergies.  As you can guess, I rely heavily on concealers to cover up those allergic shiners of mine or someone might accidentally take me for an extra zombie in Living Dead !

Naturally, this is not the type of attention I would like to attract.  As a result, I probably have more different brands and forms of concealers than some women have shoes. Though I had tried quite a few products from Mally Beauty, I had never gotten around to Mally Roncal’s solution. Therefore, I thought her Concealer Cancellation System (Fair) would be great to review.

This comes in a nice bag handy to pack and store.

What arrived is a three-piece system of a cream concealer (pink container), a finishing powder (silver container), and brush, housed in an adorable, soft pink pouch with a snap closure to store each separate metal container.  

As you can see from my photos, the color of the cream concealer is a light beige with a bit of peach to it, which is ideal for me with my light warm complexion.  After you load the flat side of that brush with product and dab it on any darkness, this concealer has a creamy texture and feels moisturizing.  

Make sure to remember just to dab, dab, dab instead of rubbing the concealer underneath your entire eye.  If you do that, you will run into problems just as you would with any concealer and have it settling into those fine lines.   The only finger that you should use as your secondary tool is that pinkie since it is the smallest and least likely finger to tug on fragile skin and ruin your concealer application.

I concentrated on the inner corner of under the eye near the nose and the far corner at the edge of the eyes, where I have pockets of scary black.  Once I dabbed with the brush carefully just to those small, targeted areas, I used my pinkie finger to gently tap the concealer in.  This is where you stop because you do not need to spread concealer on the entire under eye–only where it is needed.

Next, I flipped the brush to the other side and loaded it with the accompanying powder.  This is essential to locking in the concealer’s staying power because once I did, I had an extra bit of brightness that was good to go all day!

Seriously, if you’re having problems with your concealer, I recommend two things.  Do look into Mally Beauty’s Concealer Cancellation System ($35) because it will not leave you disappointed.  Equally important, I recommend changing your technique because a great product works hand in hand with how well you apply it.  Together, you can’t go wrong and will be amazed at how much better you’ll lighten that darkness!

Knowing When to Apply Under Eye Concealer Makes a Big Difference!

One of the best ways to camouflage under eye darkness besides a great concealer is knowing when to apply it while doing your makeup. 

If you have been in the habit of starting with concealer first and then finishing with foundation, you dilute the masking capabilities of the product by blending. This order of application will only hamper your efforts.

Therefore, never start working on your eyes with concealer until your foundation is on first.  This will definitely improve your under eye lightening results.

I would be lost without concealer and coverage that I can count on.  Anyone with allergies knows how difficult it is to hide those dark under eye circles.  Some are more lucky than others and only have to deal with those raccoon-like rings on a seasonal basis.  Sadly enough, I was born cursed with year round allergies and waking each day to scare myself in the mirror due to allergic shiners.  Therefore, I couldn't wait to try the Advanced Mineral Makeup Perfecting Concealer created by highly acclaimed TV and Film Makeup Artist, Annie Mayo, that I received to test.

This concealer comes in a tube with a sponge-tipped wand and has no harsh chemicals, no preservatives and no parabens.  Already the formula appealed to me except for the lack of preservatives, but when I read it also had anti-aging power and pampered the eye area with such ingredients as vitamin E, hyaluronic acid, grapeseed oil, and shea butter, I knew it had to be promising.  However, I couldn't make any honest judgment until I applied the product.

Here is what Beige Cream looks like in color.

Being light-skinned, I selected the fairest shade, Beige Cream, of the three colors in the line.  The consistency of this concealer was nice to blend as I worked a bit in.  A little of this full coverage concealer was all that I needed to mask my problem.  What I also liked was how the under eye area looked somewhat brightened in the process. 

Still, I couldn't make a fair assessment of its performance until I wore it through a day.  Sometimes, concealers can disappear on you or settle into fine lines after a while.  The Advanced Mineral Makeup Perfecting Concealer didn't have me scrambling  to touch-up after a few hours, which is important. 

According to the company, you can also use this concealer on acne and rosacea.  

I thought it was a wonderful product.  My only concern is how long this concealer can keep without preservatives.  Other than that, I loved it.

IT Cosmetics Can Help YOU Hide Imperfections Like a Charm--Review of Bye Bye Under Eye + Dual Airbrush Foundation/Concealer Brush

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer

As one with year round allergies, I can tell you that it takes a serious concealing product to hide dark allergic shiners.  Sometimes,  the same products I use to cover my black circles just don't cut it when they act up even when taking antihistamines.  Therefore, I have accumulated quite a collection because concealing is important to me.  Otherwise, I could be mistaken as a human raccoon with the size of those rings around my ends.

Luckily, I found IT Cosmetics, a brand of innovative cosmetics developed along with plastic surgeons to treat skin with an anti-aging formula and beneficial ingredients while delivering beautiful color.   The products that I have tried from them already have been winners so I was eager to see how well their Bye Bye Under Eye and Dual Airbrush Foundation/Concealer Brush would work on an awful allergy day to keep me from scaring people.

The company was very generous to send me two shades of the Bye Bye Under Eye in Light and Neutral Medium.  I am not fair but consider my skin more light with warm undertones.  On me, the Light shade was a better match.  The Neutral Medium is little dark for that eye area, but I can use it on the rest of my face or probably once I get into the sun.

This thick cream is waterproof and a moisturizing formula with vitamins K, A, C, E and hydrolyzed collagen to even help reduce eye puffiness because it was developed as a way to conceal facial bruising after plastic surgery. 

Unlike what you normally would use when applying concealer, you only want to squeeze out an extremely tiny amount.  Although you can use your finger, I really liked using that Dual Airbrush Foundation/Concealer Brush with this product.  

First, I applied my eye cream and then I focused that loaded brush toward the inner corners of my eyes.  I spaced a few dots from the inner and outer corners and across the lower eye socket line before using my finger.  Instead of rubbing, I tapped the concealer in.  You might be surprised at well this method worked to distribute the concealer without thinning it out in places from your fingers.  Trust me on this, you will have more success with concealer if used this way.

I liked the amount of coverage obtained while it brightened the under eye as well though it did have a slight shine.  Though once you finish with foundation and the rest of your makeup, it is perfectly fine. 

I can't say if it was the concealer that helped my saucer eyes that day shrink or my new antihistamine, but my eye swelling also went down later that morning.  This was not drying or did it cake up for me and seemed to last a long time without ending up into my fine creases, which also impressed me. 

If you  have imperfections like yours truly and are looking for a great concealer and brush, I do recommend IT Cosmetics and their Bye Bye Under Eye (retails for $24) and Dual Airbrush Foundation/Concealer Brush (retails for $48)!  These products are also available at QVC, QVC.com, Beauty.com, Beauty 360, and the shopping channel.com in Canada.

Rimmel London Hide The Blemish Concealers Review (#103 Soft Honey, #102 Light Beige, #201 Neutralizer)

Even with all the different forms of concealers I have, my makeup bag is never without a concealer stick.  I happen to think this variety is so multipurpose for everything besides dark circles, scars, pimples, and redness.  Therefore, I was very curious about how Rimmel London's Hide The Blemish Concealers provided for this review would perform when I put the three sticks I was sent to the test in #201 Neutralizer, #103  Soft Honey, and #102  Light Beige. 

The medium coverage was good in my opinion, especially for hiding any imperfections like a small discolored spot or scar.   I thought it blended well when working to layer it with foundation and powder to do a nice job of keeping such a problem a secret. 

The shades are lighter in color than they look in the tube.  Although I could work with all three, when combined with my foundation, I think the Soft Honey was the best match for my light coloring of the lot provided. 

As far as eyes are concerned, I found that if you put it on directly underneath it may settle into your creases.  Nonetheless, you can still manage to use this concealer around the eye area just as effectively to cover darkness if you concentrate only on the corners of the eyes and lightly pat the product in without stretching all the way through to those creases where it can settle. 

Besides concealing, I have discovered what an excellent primer this makes for eye shadow.  You will be shocked at how much longer your eye shadows will last if you apply some of the Hide The Blemish Concealer first. 

To sum it up, I think this is nice everyday concealer that you need to check out when you're in the market for a new one. 

Revlon's Age Defying DNA Advantage Concealer Review

Revlon's Age Defying DNA Advantage Concealers 

Finding a concealer that works for you can be tricky.  Some can be too thick or dry and hard to spread forcing you to apply it like spackling, which can also end up in those creases and fine lines.  Others can be too thin and watery so those dark circles you're attempting to hide surface until you wonder what the company was thinking to even put it on the market.  Then again, you could be lucky to find one that has everything you hope like the new Revlon Age Defying DNA Advantage Concealer.

I received two shades of this concealer in 01 Light and 02 Light/Medium for this review.  These are in tube form and come with a wand applicator.  The consistency is a thinner cream formula that is water-based so it gives superb hydration to the area. In fact, this new Revlon version is one of the most moisturizing concealers that I have ever encountered from a drug store brand with the humectants it contains.  In addition, this product has vitamin B3, vitamin E, and West Indian cherry extract.

You can blend this concealer easily and will get nice sheer to medium coverage to help camouflage problems.

Being fairly light, the lightest of the two  (01 Light) in this line, looked the best on me.  The pale beige has some yellow so it was an excellent match for my skin tone.   In comparison, the 02 Light/Medium was slightly darker but the yellowish was also more emphasized. 

To be frank, I didn't notice any difference regarding puffiness or eradicating any fine lines or wrinkles due to their DNA Advantage technology.  However, I have only started using this concealer, which could mean those beneficial effects could be apparent later in time with more use.  

I do think Revlon's Age Defying DNA Advantage Concealer is definitely worth your consideration.  Perhaps, this could be the ultimate one for you!
